So as you may have noticed, my reflecting on practicing wellness have been rather absent in recent weeks (has it REALLY been a month since I last posted something on this blog??). As I've moved through the whirlwind that has become my life, I've often thought about wellness and life planning and one thing after another has taken my time (or rather, I've chosen to dedicate my time to these things) so this blog has remained vacant...
I titled this entry "Where Wellness Isn't" because these are the moments when I am so caught up in "doing," I don't carve out enough time to "be" or rather, enough time to blog about "being." So wellness often becomes absent in the hustle and bustle of achievement and crossing things off the self-created "to do" lists. I won't make excuses or try and explain it away. Rather, I'll call it for what it is - The end of the semester? The start of a new season? Life?
Yet within the chaos, I have grown to find understanding and moments of contentment and fulfillment. These are the precious times where I pause, inhale, and breathe in the serenity of the fleeting seconds of peace before I jump back into it all. Maybe this is wellness in it's own way. To be in the middle of it all and find moments of clarity and joy.
In one of my students' Leadership Portfolios, she shared the following quote that sums it up quite well:
"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass.
It's about learning to dance in the rain."
So I guess the lesson in it all is to keep your rain boots (or bare feet!) handy and don't be afraid to make time for some dancing!
